Why is violence against animals related to violence against humans?

The launch of a new campaign in Iran entitled "Request for approval and implementation of the law against animal cruelty" has once again turned the issue of animal rights into a public and legal issue in the country.

This campaign, which began in August of this year, calls for the approval of the "Comprehensive Law for the Prohibition of Animal Cruelty and Animal Protection", the explicit criminalization of animal abuse and torture, support for shelters and activists in this field, and the establishment of official systems for registering and monitoring cases of animal cruelty.

According to the Sharag newspaper, one of the central axes of this demand is establishing a clear legal framework for defining and dealing with all kinds of animal cruelty.

🔸 The signatories demanded that behaviors such as persecution, mutilation, irresponsible release, illegal reproduction and exploitation outside the rules be clearly defined within the law and a promise of proportionate implementation be considered for them. This campaign also emphasizes the need for the legislator to pay attention to new forms of animal abuse, including the production and distribution of video content related to animal abuse in cyberspace.
