The media close to the Revolutionary Guards and some members of parliament criticized Iraq for meeting with Witkoff
A number of news outlets close to the Revolutionary Guards and Iranian parliamentarians harshly criticized Abbas Irakichi, Iran's foreign minister, for his "meeting and conversation" with Steve Witkoff, the US president's special envoy, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
According to them, such a meeting would benefit Washington under conditions of increasing American pressure, especially after the start of Iran's "economic exclusion" program.

Despite Iraq's statements, later reports differed on the nature of this conversation. Steve Witkoff announced that the delegations of Iran and the United States held long talks throughout the day "through mediators" and the mediators conducted communication between the two sides.
Ismail Bakai, spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, also said that the interaction with the American side was done through Qatari mediation in order to deliver Tehran's conditions.
