Rovio: Trump ready to meet with Pazvashkian; Revolutionary Guards: Military readiness does not mean refusal of negotiations
American Secretary of State Marco Rovio said on Tuesday, September 31, that he believes U.S. President Donald Trump is ready to meet with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Pazvashkian, at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, but such a meeting has not yet been scheduled.
In an interview with Fox News, Rovio said: 'I think what you see from the first term of this president and now he is ready to talk and meet with anyone.'
Two days ago, Donald Trump announced his willingness to meet with Pazvashkian in New York and at the same time said about Iran: 'I am in a decision-making mode and very big things will happen in the near future.' The American Foreign Minister announced the possible meeting and negotiations between Trump and Pazvashkian: 'Whether constructive results come from such a meeting or not is harder, because the final decision-maker in Iran is the leader of the Salami Republic, and the leader of the Salami Republic is a radical religious figure.'
Rovio continued: 'We must remember that when we talk, we are not only talking about politicians; instead, we are talking about people whose decisions are influenced by their theological beliefs.'
The American Foreign Minister also said in an interview with NBC about the possible meeting between the U.S. and Iran presidents: 'We are ready to have such a talk. I don't think something is planned at this stage, but we are definitely ready for such a meeting, especially if the chance leads to positive results and ultimately to the realization of the main goal of this issue.'
He added: 'And the goal is that Iran will never be able to acquire nuclear weapons. They simply cannot hold such a weapon.'
Meanwhile, Hossein Mohabi, spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guards, in an interview with the Salami news agency, IRNA, welcomed the possible negotiations with the United States and said: 'If our national interest is to negotiate together with war, we must negotiate.'
He added that the readiness of the militant armed forces of the Salami Republic for war does not mean 'refusal of negotiations.'
