The French president announced his plan to host an emergency summit of the Group of Seven, focusing on the energy crisis.

On Friday, September 27, Emmanuel Macron said: "In the coming weeks we will host a meeting of the Group of 7, especially on energy issues, in order to strengthen cooperation and prevent unnecessary tensions between the member states of the group and our main partners."

The French president also said that this meeting could be a good opportunity "to examine the available options related to the possibility of releasing strategic fuel reserves".

With the continuation of the US-Iran war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and the cessation of Saudi Arabia's exports from Yanbu as a result of Yemen's Houthi attacks, the price of crude oil recorded a 20% jump this month.

With seven months left until the French presidential elections, the government of this country fears that the increase in fuel prices and, as a result, other living costs will increase discontent and social unrest.
