Thousands of people attended this 57-year-old singer's concert on Thursday evening, September 26.

At the beginning of this concert, whose tickets were completely sold out and held under strict security measures, Esala told the audience that he did not believe he would be among the people of Syria again.

He was one of the first artists to support peaceful protests against Bashar al-Assad in 2011 and refused to participate in pro-government programs. Following this position, he was expelled from the Syrian Artists Union and then went to Cairo with his family.

During the civil war in Syria, the Islamic Republic of Iran was one of the most important supporters of Bashar al-Assad's government, and together with its affiliated forces, including Lebanon's Hezbollah, provided military and political support to Damascus.
