A car bomb blast at the entrance to a mosque in the police headquarters of the city of Kohat in northwestern Pakistan left at least 15 dead and more than 50 injured.

According to local authorities, a suicide bomber rammed a car full of explosives into the entrance of the mosque on Friday, the 27th of Shahrivar, when worshippers, including police officers, were gathering for Friday prayers.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for this ground attack.

The regional branch of ISIS and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Tibrigade, are both active in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and areas near the Afghan border and have repeatedly attacked security forces.

Violence in Pakistan's border areas has increased in recent years. Islamabad accuses the Afghan Taliban government of allowing militants to use Afghan soil to plan attacks in Pakistan. Senior Taliban officials deny this claim.
