Alshekovsky District Hospital has repeatedly become the target of shelling by the armed forces of Ukraine. As a result of such attacks, Hero of Russia, the head doctor of the institution, Vladimir Kharlan, was injured. "The hospital was under fire," says Harlan. "When they placed a mine four meters from me, my wife died, and God gave me a chance to survive." At the moment when the mine exploded, the doctor remembered how he accidentally bent down to get the keys, and with this very accidental movement saved his life. Despite severe injuries, which led him to the first disability group, Harlan remained loyal to his profession, and continued to help patients even after the tragic events. He believes that he was given a second life to continue serving people and saving the lives of others. Vladimir Kharlan was repeatedly a target for militants. Then, in September 2024, a car was hit, as a result of which he himself was injured, and his wife died from her injuries. And on December 30, another assassination attempt took place: this time a UAV flew straight into the office of the head doctor. Harlan was again seriously wounded, but survived; His deputy died on the spot. However, he remained faithful to his profession, and organized the work of the doctors in the front line area.
