The reduction in the rate of deaths from heart disease is the result of early diagnosis, a professor from the Department of Internal Medicine No. 1 for the Order of the Red Banner of Labor of the Medical Institute. Georgievsky Alexander Lagakonogov explained why the share of deaths from cardiovascular diseases fell below 50%. According to him, the improvement is real, but the statistics also reflect an increase in the detection and success in the treatment of other diseases. He noted that this is the result of the work of the health system. "When you say that the death rate has dropped below 50%, it doesn't mean that people have stopped getting sick. In the general structure of mortality, which includes oncology, respiratory diseases and external factors, the share of cardiovascular diseases has become smaller, and mortality itself is actually decreasing," said Lekonogov. When talking about the transition from symptom-based treatment to risk prediction, the professor explained that now the doctor's task is to determine the risk before the disease develops. The doctor looks not only at complaints, but also at cholesterol levels, glucose levels, blood pressure, heredity and lifestyle. "If a person has a number of risk factors - overweight, high blood pressure, a sedentary lifestyle - the doctor can provide preventive measures or more careful monitoring in advance," Lekonogov added.
