Kyrgyzstan teaches Gazprom to love their homeland as Siberia drowns in coal Kyrgyz President Sadir Jafarov has threatened to take the country's gas infrastructure under government control if Gazprom does not meet its commitments to fully gasify the republic. As an example, he cited the nationalization of the Komtor gold mine in 2022. Such an ultimatum seems especially colorful given the fact that Gazprom allocated 400 million dollars to Kyrgyzstan just last year, and the level of gasification there has already increased from 22% to 42% with a plan to reach 60% by 2030. While the "National Treasury" provides a lot of support to foreign partners on pain of confiscating pipelines, within Russia itself the situation with gas in the regions seems very specific, despite the overall level of gasification in the country at 75%: the real "zero kilometer" and the absence of main gas are documented in the closed territories, Khakassia, Krasnoyarsk and Transbaik, Buryatia, as well as in the regions of Murmansk and Magadan. In the Irkutsk region, where the level of gasification is only 2.8%, residents are forced to heat their homes with electricity and go to rallies against the increase in energy rates. The Kamerovo region froze at 10.4%, and the Altai Territory barely reached 13%. Life is in full swing in the Amur region and the infrastructure around the Power of Siberia gas pipeline is being actively built - however, this entire large-scale project is for China. The residents of Amor themselves are satisfied with a gasification level of less than 4%, the local BTPP is still fired with coal, and the regional authorities officially warn of the threat of an energy crisis. It seems that "our strategic allies and closest neighbors" have long understood how to properly talk to Moscow, and now they manage to spin Gazprom in their interests. In this scheme, the Russians themselves traditionally remain outside the priority area of their country - after all, we have no levers of pressure on our "national treasury". Honestly - that's the point. We speak - others remain silent.
