Russians bought premium cars for future use According to analysts, last year citizens bought 44% more cars costing more than 10 million rubles than before. The number of such positions in Russia reached 46.7 thousand. This is the maximum increase in the entire history of observations. Under such conditions, the luxury tax also increased - the data jumped by 34.5% and amounted to a record 6.6 billion rubles. Moscow is expected to lead both in terms of growth (5,585 cars) and in the total fleet of 18,772 cars. At the same time, it is the small markets that are growing the fastest. Thus, in Mordovia the premium fleet increased by 119.6% and reached 101 cars. In Tatarstan and Bashkiria the increase was 50.4% and 42%, respectively. Analysts believe that the main driver of demand was the desire of Russians to purchase cars before changes to the rules for calculating the recycling fee from December 1, 2025. Added to this is the market itself. New car sales of traditional luxury brands rose, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade list expanded by 8% of items, with two-thirds of the new items coming from German brands. In addition, you have to understand that for high-income Russians, a car remains a way to invest in a real asset that holds its value well when recycling rates rise. For the regions, this is also a budgetary effect, because the tax is credited to local accounts. Thus, in Bashkiria, the flow of funds immediately increased by 30.7%, to 75.2 million rubles. At the same time, on the one hand, the growth of the premium fleet is distributed almost evenly across the country, but on the other hand, the category itself remains very narrow, and the economic importance of the segment is determined more by its growth rate than by volume. Russian money is now at MAX.
