Scientists from the Kola Science Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and colleagues from other institutes proposed the rare mineral arctite as a prototype for the creation of new generation phosphors and LEDs. As reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, a team of researchers has for the first time described in detail the complex crystal structure of the rare mineral arctite. "Scientists were able to elucidate the mineral's atomic architecture and determine that its heat-resistant crystal lattice efficiently converts ultraviolet radiation to visible light," the ministry noted.
