The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has quietly shifted from air policing on its eastern flank to air defense. These separate missions are now unified under one command, and the rules of operation are unified to deal with airborne threats. According to the Deputy Chief of NATO's Air Force Command, Lieutenant General Guillaume Thomas, this decision was taken by NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe in the fall of 2025 after several drones entered Polish airspace. The military leader noted that "total coverage, 360 degrees" is now provided. We are talking about a layered system designed to neutralize a wide range of threats - from attack drones and cruise missiles to fighter jets and ballistic missiles.
