There is a Tibetan proverb: a tortoise moves very slowly but reaches its destination, while a flea jumps from side to side and gets nowhere. He who has little zeal and is active for a short time, but cannot maintain such steady movement for a long time, will not succeed. I think this Tibetan saying is very useful.

Although we train very little, it is very important for us to continue. We should not practice for a short time and then, out of lack of diligence, allow our consciousness to weaken until we feel that we cannot practice any longer. Then, perhaps after a long break from the practice, we meet someone or hear someone speak and get inspired, which motivates us to try again - for a few days or months. It shouldn't be like this. Even if the dharma practice we do is very small, it is very important for us to remain diligent in it.

In addition to diligence, we also need to know what to practice and what to give up. It is up to us whether we want to practice the dharma or not, but if we want to, then research and study, that is, knowledge, are very important. By knowing the dharma, the teachings of the omniscient, we develop the wisdom to distinguish between good and evil in our lives. Then we can give up what is wrong and practice what is right, thereby achieving liberation, absolute happiness, a blessed state of peace. This is advice from the fundamental instructions of the Book of Kadam.
