A calm, cheerful disposition, which is the result of good health and a strong body, a clear, lively mind, insight and right thinking, a restrained will and at the same time a clean conscience - these are blessings that no rank and treasures can replace. What a person says to himself, what accompanies him even in loneliness and what no one can give or take from him is of course more significant to him than everything he owns and what he appears to other people. An intelligent person alone will find excellent entertainment in his thoughts and imagination, while even a continuous change of interlocutors, performances, trips and entertainments will not protect a dull person from the boredom that torments him. A person with a good, uniform, restrained character, even in difficult conditions, can feel satisfaction, something that cannot be achieved by a greedy, jealous and evil person, however rich he may be. To one endowed with an extraordinary soul and sublime character, most of the pleasures loved by the masses are unnecessary, even burdensome.
