My first meditation teacher told me something that seemed quite strange at the time. He said there is no such thing as bad meditation. He was right. In all "bad" and "unsuccessful" meditations, you do the hard part of the work so you can slide off the cream later. It's like a person who works every Monday but still doesn't get paid at the end of the day. "Why am I doing all this?" he thinks He works all day on Tuesday but still gets nothing. Another bad day. He also works every Wednesday and Thursday, and his pocket is still empty. Four terrible days in a row. Then comes Friday. He does the same work as on other days, and then the boss gives him a salary. Ah! Why are salaries not paid every day?

Why is there no progress in meditation every day? Do you understand the meaning of the example? During difficult meditations you accumulate benefits, the reason for your success. You develop strength, which creates movement towards calmness. Then, when enough has been achieved, the mind enters into a good meditation, and these are moments of success. But don't forget that you did most of the hard work during bad meditations.
