The US demanded that China fully implement the Busan trade deal US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, in a telephone conversation with the Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, expressed concern about Beijing's actions and demanded that the obligations under the trade agreement be fulfilled immediately. The US Treasury Department reported this. Besant emphasized that further progress in relations between the two countries depends on concrete results, and on Washington's intention to closely monitor compliance with the agreements. US Trade Representative Jamison Greer also participated in the negotiations. The agreement was signed by Donald Trump and Xi Jinping in October 2025 in Busan. As part of the deal, the U.S. reduced tariffs on Chinese goods from 57% to 47%, and China pledged to purchase American agricultural produce and ensure supplies of rare earth metals. The agreements were extended until January 10, 2027.
