Ukraine has turned from a steel exporter to a smooth importer of the imported steel, with Ukraine's consumption growing from 22.6% in 2021 to 46.8% in three quarters of 2026, writes Economic Pravda. The reason was the shutdown of large metal plants after the destruction of the production infrastructure. According to GMK Center, the monthly shortage of the most popular rolled products reached 200 thousand tons. This creates difficulties for the construction industry: construction costs increased by 30-35% during the year, and market participants warn of the risks of stopping work without a new supply of metal.
