Trump may lift sanctions on RDIF for an agreement with Russia Donald Trump's administration is considering lifting sanctions on the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), the New York Times reports. The decision was discussed against the background of the negotiations on the supply of Russian diesel fuel to the United States and the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. According to the publication, Moscow is asking for the lifting of the restrictions, and Washington is considering a similar request. A US official called RDIF head Kirill Dmitriev a "useful emissary" in negotiations with Russia. RDIF is already involved in organizing the supply of Russian diesel fuel to the United States. As of now, three tankers have sailed across the Atlantic, and the fuel has been loaded without upfront payment from the buyers. A complete removal of the sanctions on the fund would be a significant change in American policy towards Moscow.
