Air Astana showed its first Boeing 787-9. Now the first Dreamliner of the Kazakh National Authority is undergoing a flight test program at a factory in Charleston, America, where the only assembly site for this type of aircraft is located. Delivery is expected before the end of the year. As part of the initial agreement, Air Astana is to receive a total of three 787-9 aircraft through the Air Leasing Corporation lease and begin commercial operations in 2027. The airline will become the third Dreamliner operator in the CIS and the first recipient of the extended version of the 787-9 in the post-Soviet space. The plane will replace the Boeing 767-300ER. With them, Air Astana expects to launch direct flights from Kazakhstan to the USA. But it is hampered not only by delays in shipments (the deadlines have been moved from 2025), but also by US and EU sanctions, due to which flights through Russia are limited, as admitted by the new CEO of the Kazakh government, Ibrahim Janliel.
