"Meslanitsa is not all for the cat, there will also be a fast" - an ideal reminder that life is cyclical. A period of carefree times always lead to more difficult times.
Where did the phrase come from?
In Maslenitsa, even the village cat drowned in sour cream and fritters. But exactly a week later, Lent began: the festive table was empty, and the surplus ran out. Yesterday's "master" immediately returned to the difficult daily life.
This proverb has a less familiar, but very significant, continuation that further emphasizes the inevitability of change:
"Not everything has to do with Maslenitsa, there will also be Lent; and after Lent there will be Easter. ".
This addition turns a pessimistic warning into a life-affirming philosophy: yes, hardships will come, but they won't last forever—surely a bright holiday will make them.
