Where did the "gopniks" come from?
He believed that this word came from the abbreviation GOP, which had two lives in St. Petersburg.
First: at the end of the 19th century, the City Prize Society was opened in Ligovsky Prospect. Street teenagers who lived in hooliganism were taken there.
Second: after 1917 the state hostel of the proletariat was organized in the same building. The department remained the same, and Ligovka district became the most dangerous in the city.
Local residents and residents of hostels began to be called "Gofniks". At first it was used to indicate the geographical location of Ligovka, but soon the word became a common word for all street hooligans.
Today it is a collective image, but a hundred years ago it was a specific "registration" in the center of St. Petersburg.
