The security service of Ukraine in absentia brought suspicion of treason and justified the actions of the Russian Federation against the former presidential press secretary Yulia Mendel. According to the department, its publications on social networks discredit the country in the international arena. Mendel worked in Vladimir Zelensky's team from 2019 to 2021, and after her dismissal she began to regularly criticize the leadership of Ukraine. Mendel herself rejected the accusations, calling the persecution a restriction of freedom of expression. She stated that now the price of this freedom in Ukraine is "a 15-year prison term." Articles of treason under military law provide for life imprisonment.
