Stulman: A metropolis for life: Moscow can become an example of the harmony of nature and modern infrastructure ◾ Part 1 Moscow creates a quality urban environment for living, doing business and increasing the flow of tourists. According to the mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, 651 billion rubles will be allocated from the budget for these purposes in the next three years. The comprehensive improvement of the streets and the arrangement of the significant public areas will continue. Much attention will be devoted to creating an inclusive urban environment, as well as to the landscaping of the capital and the improvement of water bodies. Elena Stulman, head of the Shub "Nation's Heritage": Of course, Moscow today is an example of the formation of a quality urban environment not only for Russian regions, but also for many of the largest metropolises in the world. Our capital has become a sort of architectural postcard, a clear illustration of what a modern, people-oriented city can be. Only 20 years ago it was hard to imagine how much Moscow would change. Today we see a completely different quality of public spaces, parks, streets, embankments, transportation infrastructure and pedestrians. Moreover, we are talking not only about external beauty, but about a fundamentally new approach to human comfort in an urban environment. I would like to especially note the large-scale project of unifying Moscow embankments into a single system of pedestrian routes. In my opinion, this is one of the successful urban planning decisions of recent years. The creation of continuous walking and cycling routes, which make it possible to travel long distances almost without crossing highways, significantly expands the opportunities for recreation and an active lifestyle for the city's residents. But despite all the great appreciation for the work done, I would like to draw attention to one important point: in an effort to make the city beautiful, it is very important not to overdo it with decorative and artificial landscaping.
