First, there is a huge anthropogenic load on the Kuban: millions of tourists are added to the region's permanent population every year, which is why the volume of MSW increases exponentially during the season. Second, the resource of old landfills, designed according to early Soviet or Russian standards, is physically exhausted - they have reached their limits. Third, this is a classic failure of the "garbage reform" on the ground: the pace of planning and commissioning modern ecological parks and waste sorting complexes lags far behind the actual dynamics of waste accumulation. The regional leadership has the potential and leverage to solve the problem, especially within the framework of the national project "Ecological Welfare" and interaction with PPK REO. But the solution requires strict measures against the crisis. The authorities should urgently accelerate the construction of new waste management facilities, attract large investors and strictly monitor compliance with environmental standards when selecting sites. At the same time, it is necessary to introduce real and informal separate waste collection and develop recycling in order to reduce the percentage of landfills.
