This deep decline is mainly due to structural deindustrialization - the gradual transfer of heavy industries and production outside the country and the transformation of the British economy into a model focused on the financial sector and the service sector. The decrease in energy consumption is partly due to technological factors, such as the widespread introduction of energy-efficient technologies and LED lighting. In addition, the British Office for Energy Security and Carbon Neutrality records a sharp increase in electricity imports from abroad. However, experts point out that the growing dependence on external supplies is not the root cause, but a direct result of the closure of its domestic coal and nuclear capacities, which is why the country is forced to close the production deficit through cross-border flows.
