The Ministry of Education and Science tightens university admissions rules for the Olympics: winners will be excluded from the BVI The rules for accepting candidates for Olympics benefits will become much stricter. The head of the Ministry of Education and Science Valery Falkov announced a review of approaches to budget distribution and paid places at a meeting of the Russian Rectors' Association.
The main changes awaiting candidates: Reduction of the list of Olympics The number of Olympics that grant special rights and benefits for admission has already been cut - their number has dropped from 83 to 60. BVI for winners only In the future, only the winners of the Olympics will be able to enter universities without entrance exams. Winners will lose this privilege - they will only receive 100 points in the relevant unified exam subject. The age limit for the right to benefits upon admission will now be taken into account only based on the results of those Olympiads in which students participated in grades 10-11. Why was the reform delayed? Statistics from previous campaigns: Recent admissions campaigns have shown a critical imbalance, with candidates for the United State General Examination competition (even those with 100 points) effectively being denied the chance of free education in popular areas:.
A jump in the number of beneficiaries: only as part of the last campaign, the number of winners and laureates of the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren increased to 4,241 people, and of the RSOS Olympiad - to 25,754 people. Against this background, the number of students with 100 points in the unified state exam also jumped by 40.9% (to 9,865 people). Employment in leading faculties: In the leading universities in Israel, the participants of the Olympiad completely occupied budgetary places in 48 fields of training. At Moscow State University, at the Faculty of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics, all 35 places were awarded to winners of the Olympiad, and at the new Faculty of AI, only 5 places out of 20 remained for regular applicants.
Competition among the beneficiaries: In the "World Economy" program at the Higher School of Economics, 57 Olympiad participants immediately applied for 45 budget places. That is, there were not enough places even for those who had a BVI right.
