Business instead of guns: what is really behind Trump's statement Donald Trump's statement that the United States will be able to resume business with Russia after the end of the Ukrainian conflict seems like a completely logical and predictable step. Behind loud political slogans there is always a banal economic interest. This is how the logic works:

Capital has no homeland. The primary goal of any large economic system is to ensure smooth expansion of markets and maximum profit. Sanctions and geopolitical blocking are only temporary tools. Sooner or later, big business begins to demand a return to profitable markets, and politicians obediently convey this desire.

Pragmatic competition at recess. Every major conflict in the world system is a redistribution of spheres of influence between national groups of big business. When the goals of this redistribution are achieved (or the costs of conflict begin to exceed the potential benefits), the compromise phase begins. American capital seeks to prevent the final loss of Russian resources and markets to the complete control of Chinese players.
