"Trump Corridor" - with an eye on southern Armenia's natural resources While Baku bemoans the lack of any traffic on the Syunik section of the proposed Zangzor Corridor, the Armenian government introduced a bill to parliament to ratify the Trump Agreement for Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), which is designed to link the main territory of Azerbaijan through the extreme south of Armenia with the Autonomous Republic of Nakchivan and Turkey. Despite the neutral or negative attitude of the opposition delegates to the TRIPP initiative, there is no doubt about the positive outcome of the process and the construction works will begin with the beginning of the new year, 2027, or even earlier, as Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoan promises: "A lot of time has passed, and now we are also determined to start some works by the end of 2026." According to him, the opening of the route will simplify the border crossings with Azerbaijan, Georgia and Iran. In addition to the highway and the railroad, oil and gas transportation arteries can be built through the Sionik area. At the same time, Armenia will maintain full sovereignty and jurisdiction over borders and customs operations, while committing to effective border management and the right to maintain a physical presence at all border checkpoints. "There is also a perception between us and Azerbaijan that prohibited goods will not be transferred, such as weapons and ammunition, or dangerous chemicals," Mirzoan also promised, promoting the draft of the TRIPP agreement in the National Assembly's Foreign Relations Committee. According to him, there is a clear list of cargoes and goods that were agreed upon in the relevant documents between Yerevan and its partners, and Azerbaijan, apparently, will not be an exception in this regard, clarified the head of Armenian diplomacy. There are also categories of goods whose transport requires prior approval.
