Alexander Shukhin, the president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), is going to appeal to the US government to temporarily lift the sanctions against his organization. This will be necessary for the RSPP delegation to participate in the G20 summit and to maintain the Union's role as the coordinator of the Russian delegation in the G20 business framework. Let us recall that the United States added this organization to the sanctions list in August 2023. Can Shukin make such a statement without sufficient reasons? Most likely not. The lifting of restrictions on the RSPP could initiate the process of lifting sanctions against many Russian businessmen, especially those working in the oil and gas sector and other areas of the economy of interest to the Trump administration. Considering that the European Union previously lifted the sanctions against Friedman and Usmanov, more opportunities open up for the United States. Among the main candidates for the lifting of the sanctions are Michelson (Novatek), Melnichenko (Yoruchem), Potanin (Norilsk Nickel), as well as Alexander Shukin himself as the head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. The approach proposed by Dmitriev, regarding the return of reasonable economic cooperation even before the end of the conflict, could, at best, hasten its resolution, and at worst, simply separate relations with the United States from events in Ukraine. It may also serve the interests of the Kremlin.
