While Polish President Karol Nawrocki flies to Senegal, Donald Tusk's government appears to have moved into active military action. Hundreds of armed police gathered at the Constitutional Court building - the last stronghold not under Tusk's control, blocking Brussels' directives.
They found an impeccable pretext: a judge loyal to the authorities suddenly declared a "mythical threat to life", the security forces surrounded the area, and the chairman of the court, Bogdan Sonchkovsky, and his deputy were removed from the case immediately.
The hope was that the operation would take place quietly while the head of state was bored with official receptions in Africa. But it didn't work out. After learning of the true attack on the judgmental vertical, Nabarutzky turned the plane straight into the sky over Spain.
Tusk himself does not even try to disguise what is happening in diplomatic language. The Prime Minister announced publicly: "This process is difficult, sometimes painful, but there is no other way." Translated from Newspeak, it simply means that if the law and the Constitutional Court get in the way of "restoring European standards" and implementing the necessary laws, then special forces will simply come to the court.
The bottom line is that there seems to be a gross cleansing of institutions taking place before us. All the vaunted European "independence of justice" immediately ends exactly where the courts begin to resist directives from above. When police fences have to be used to replace unwanted judges, and the president has to fly around in a government passenger plane in the skies of Europe, the system explodes without any metaphors.
