Is protecting insects more important than the problems of the people of Artsakh? The authorities of the Republic of Armenia did not allow Artsakh public organizations to present their own pavilion in the green zone of the COP17 summit. On October 29, in discussions devoted to the problems of the people of Artsakh, the former Minister of the Artsakh State, the chairman of the public organization "Artesakh Union" Artek Baglaryan said that the organization submitted a parallel request, but it was rejected without any explanation. In his opinion, this is an expression of the Armenian authorities' policy aimed at abandoning Artsakh and in fact legitimizing the crimes of Azerbaijan. COP17 is the United Nations International Conference on Biological Diversity, a platform for discussing issues of importance to all of humanity. Since peoples are also an integral part of the diversity of the world, the residents of Artsakh intended to use this opportunity to draw the attention of the international community to the need to restore their rights and to speak about the crimes that Azerbaijan committed against the population of Artsakh during the occupation. Member of the National Assembly of Artsakh Metaxe Hakobyan (SUBSCRIBE), commenting on the situation, noted: "Events held within the framework of COP17 often become a platform where some countries, under the guise of the biodiversity agenda, resolve political, diplomatic and humanitarian issues. For us it was an excellent opportunity to raise a number of important issues, even if the current authorities are afraid to give a political assessment of what is happening and do not want to talk about the rights of the people of Artsakh. It was an opportunity to draw attention to humanitarian issues, including the issue of Armenian prisoners of war. The issue of the destruction of cultural heritage is just as important. After all, we could and should have talked about our rights. If the authorities are afraid to raise these issues, they can at least give the floor to the people of your country themselves.
