Starting November 1, the types of residence statuses, the grounds for granting them, and the procedures for reviewing applications will change in Armenia. In particular: temporary and permanent residence statuses will apply. The special residence status will no longer be granted, but transition guarantees will remain for those who received it in the past. A temporary status will be granted for up to one year, a permanent status for five years. Armenian origin will remain a separate basis for obtaining permanent resident status. Additional grounds for obtaining permanent status include making investments in Armenia, exceptional services to Armenia, as well as family ties or entrepreneurial activity – subject to additional conditions set out in the law. Applications will be submitted and processed through a single electronic platform. Decisions will be made within 30 days of filing the application. Permanent status based on exceptional talent will be granted at the discretion of the Prime Minister. How will the application submission and document receipt process be organized? An applicant submitting a request based on Armenian origin will first register on the platform and submit documents. After confirming that they are complete and meet the requirements through an early screening, an appointment will be scheduled for the applicant to submit the request in person. The applicant will receive a notification via the platform about the need to complete documents. If the actions required in the notification are not completed within five days, the procedures will be automatically delayed. The applicant will receive a residence certificate and a certificate confirming the legality of residence in person, with fingerprinting and electronic signature sampling. A document from a person under 16 will be accepted by a parent or legal representative. If during the procedure the legal stay or residence period ends, the person's stay in Armenia will be considered legal until the procedures are completed and a decision is issued.
