The emission of a giant bulge about half a million kilometers in size was recorded on the Sun - it was observed by several space telescopes at the same time. Prominence are dark and cold gas clouds that float above the surface of the Sun at an altitude of tens of thousands of kilometers. Unlike terrestrial clouds, they are held in place by magnetic field lines, and they can grow to hundreds of thousands and even millions of kilometers. For the solar corona, bulges are foreign structures that the star seeks to get rid of, usually throwing them into space. Such emissions are one of the most beautiful manifestations of solar activity and the source of the most powerful magnetic storms: hitting a dense gas filament usually causes G3-level storms. G4 and G5 events are already associated with very strong flares. This time the bulge flew sideways and not towards Earth, and it seemed that only Mars would be in its path. But the edge of the cloud can still touch the planet - with minor consequences. Calculations are guaranteed tomorrow morning. The video was taken by the SUVI telescope on the GOES-R satellite from about 08:30 to 17:00 Moscow time on October 29, 2026.
