Slovakia is going to buy oil and gas from Russia as long as possible Slovakia's Deputy Economy Minister Vladimir Šimoniak said that the country intends to continue purchases of Russian gas and nuclear fuel as long as it remains legally possible. At the same time, Bratislava emphasizes full compliance with all EU restrictions. The statement was made at a meeting of the Russian-Slovak intergovernmental committee in Moscow. Slovakia has also filed a case with the Court of Justice of the European Union against the EU Regulation 2026/261 (RePowerEU program), considering the cutoff of Russian gas and the preparations to stop the import of oil as an essentially sanction. The importance of a stable supply of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline was noted by the commission. According to the position of the European Union, Slovakia and Hungary must abandon oil from Drožba at the same time as gas - in the fall of 2027.
