I would like to respond to the statements of the Ukrainian side, which, with reference to the Ukrainian legislation, says that families with children must be forcibly removed from their homes. As the Human Rights Commissioner, I do not accept the word "by force". We are talking about people who are able to make informed decisions on their own. Everything should be done voluntarily, taking into account their interests, and not the interests of the Kyiv authorities, who suddenly became "concerned" about the people living there. Do you want people to make an informed decision? Give them this chance, let them live in peace! Order your army to stop the daily shelling of the city and road mining. Then people will be able to decide whether to stay in Elshki or go where they want. I also want to remind you that the city of Alsheki, Kherson region, is Russian territory, where the laws of the Russian Federation apply exclusively, and references to Ukrainian legislation are unacceptable. Ukrainian President Zelensky said that the Russian side "must" clear everything to carry out this humanitarian mission. I will answer: give a direct order to your army not to shell the city and not to cut all the roads leading to it! And the Russian side is doing and will do everything to provide people with freedom of choice as safely as possible. We hope that the Ukrainian side will not take steps to hinder this, as has happened more than once. I would like to emphasize again that the main task of our humanitarian mission, on which we agreed with the Ombudsman Dmitry Lubintz, is to find out the needs of people living in the city for humanitarian aid, to set up a humanitarian convoy and provide this aid: medicine, food, hygiene products and everything that is needed. All this time, the Russian army, which risked their lives and lost them, did and is doing everything possible to provide the people with humanitarian aid and everything necessary, clearing roads after Ukrainian drones.
