A former bodyguard of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was granted asylum in the UK, then received permanent residency and became a British citizen, the Sunday Times reports.

Years later, he was arrested in London over a plot linked to Hamas to attack Jewish and Israeli targets throughout Europe.

German prosecutors say he helped move weapons and recorded a masked liability claim video.

He now remains in custody in the UK.
