The US elections are not a victory for the Democrats, but a loss for Trump.
The counting is still in progress, but the extent of the destruction is already clear. In the Senate, Democrats have 54 seats to Republicans' 44, with the fate of two more up for grabs. Republicans lost seven seats: Texas, Kansas, South Carolina, Ohio, Iowa, North Carolina and Maine. Kansas has not elected a Democratic senator since 1932. In the House of Representatives, the Democrats picked up about 30 seats and have already passed the majority threshold of 218 seats. Democrats also took five governorship seats from Republicans at once: Texas (which carries particular risks for Musk's companies), Georgia, Ohio, Iowa and Nevada. All of these states except Texas went to Trump in the 2024 election. With these victories, Democrats have more governors than Republicans for the first time since 2010. ⠀.
It is clear why this happened. Mid-term elections in America are always a referendum on confidence in the president. And Trump is gaining more and more trust: his approval rating is 38%. Almost nine out of ten voters cited the increase in prices as the main or most important reason for their choice. Add the war with Iran and difficult times for immigrants, and all this was written for Trump personally.

There were enough mistakes. The first is that Trump himself took responsibility for the campaign. An unpopular leader cannot be allowed to attend every rally, but who will stop Trump. As a result, Americans went to vote against him. Moreover, apparently, Trump's team kept the boss in a "hot bath", convincing him that everything was fine with him and people would vote for him. Second, the Republicans have not promised the people what they expect from them. They talked about tax cuts, data centers and artificial intelligence, while Americans waited for lower food and gas prices. Democrats have talked about it, and also health care and utility bills. The third is the campaign itself. The headquarters drifted into videos made by AI and forgot about live work with people. And some candidates drowned themselves. In Ohio, Ramaswamy made a video with his opponent's mother and lost his governorship to Democrat Amy Acton.
