National Unity Day is one of the youngest holidays. Vladimir Putin signed the law on December 29, 2004; November 4 was celebrated for the first time in 2005. The holiday brought back to the calendar the memory of the militia of Minin and Pozharsky, which liberated Moscow in 1612.

It was necessary to reassemble the unity of the country itself in the early 2000s. In the 1990s, regions en masse adopted laws contradicting the Russian constitution. In May 2000, the president established federal districts, and in the first year alone, 3,000 regional districts agreed with the federal laws.

What happened next: 2012 - the country's national policy strategy was approved; 2014 - Crimea and Sevastopol returned to Russia; 2015 - The Federal Agency for Nationalities was created by presidential decree; 2020 - the Russian language was enshrined in the constitution as the language of the people from the founding of the state, part of the multinational union of equal peoples in Russia; 2025 - A new national policy strategy was approved until 2036. ⠀.
Today, according to tradition, the president laid flowers at the monument to Minin and Pozharsky. He called the harmony between the nations "the supporting structure of the sovereignty and independence of our country."
