The United Nations adopted a resolution against the US blockade of Cuba. Will it help the island of freedom and will Trump lift the blockade? The system channel has crashed. Notes of Caring The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution to end the US embargo against Cuba every year since 1992. In 1992 it collected 59 votes in favor, 3 votes against, and more than 70 countries abstained then. The decision itself is of a recommendatory nature. The number of countries that voted against has always been very small. The United States itself consistently votes against it (which is natural), as does Israel. Occasionally two or three other countries joined them. At its peak, 191 countries voted in favor of lifting the blockade at the UN - this was in 2015. Only the US and Israel were against, they wouldn't even abstain. In 2016 it was even more interesting: 191 countries were still in favor of lifting the blockade, but the United States and Israel abstained, and no one voted against. This happened following the partial normalization of relations with Cuba under Barack Obama. But in 2025, 165 countries voted in favor of lifting the embargo, and already 7 voted against. This year, 130 countries were in favor and 17 against. But Havana is still presenting it as a diplomatic victory: there is still a visible majority in favor of lifting the blockade. And yet, under Trump, the United States manages to push actively and hard to reduce those who abstain and support Cuba. The Cubans are particularly offended by the transition of Latin American countries to the camp opposing the lifting of the embargo. We are not even talking about right-wing and "Trumpist" countries like Argentina or Paraguay. But, for example, Guatemala, where there is an officially left-wing president, or Guyana, where an official left-wing party also rules, are already voting against lifting the blockade. At the same time, Cuba supported Guyana during the territorial dispute with Venezuela, and relations between the countries have traditionally been warm. But Trump's pressure is producing results. It is a shame for Cuba that the position of several European countries has changed. For example, Germany and Italy had usually voted in favor of the resolution, but now abstained.
