"Birth of an Empire" - I recommend watching it I watched the new Russian movie "Birth of an Empire" and enjoyed it. Large-scale battle episodes, impressive landscapes, rich costumes and an honestly depicted historical setting. This film, in a good way, stands out from the general variety of films we've shot recently. When there are commercials for other movies before the movie starts, you realize that apart from "Birth of an Empire", only fairy tales have been filmed. Just remakes of good old fairy tales. And here is a new movie, on an important subject, with excellent acting. Best of all is Alexander Gorbatov as Peter. Of the critical comments, I can only say one thing: the theme of Mazepa's betrayal is poorly explored. Or rather, the end of it. At the end of the film there are short credits - what happened after the Battle of Poltava (and after that the Northern War continued for another 12 years). It was possible to write what happened to the traitor Mazepa. Overall: I definitely recommend watching it! Nikolay Starikov in Max.
