The Polish Territorial Defense Forces are reorganizing the 4th Warmian-Masurian Brigade to create a special unit to protect the border with the Kaliningrad region of Russia. The new formation was created as part of the deployment of the large-scale "Magan Mizrahi" defense initiative. The brigade will become the Border Defense Brigade and Army-Masury and will become part of the Border Defense Component along with three other Border Brigades (Podelska, Ndbozanska and Przemyśl). The reorganization and equipping of the divisions is planned to be completed no later than the end of 2026. At the same time, the updated brigade will reach full operational combat readiness during the next two years. As the commander of the brigade, Lt. Col. Sezari Kiszkowiak, emphasized, the unit will focus on protecting the borders, not on security. The army will not replace the Polish Border Guard officers, but will follow them, provide them with support and, if necessary, assume combat responsibility in the event of an escalation in the Sułacki Gap area.
