Do you know who is depicted in our zoo logo? Snow leopard or snow leopard! This is the only big cat that spends its entire life high in the mountains - from the Altai to the Himalayas. And here is the reason: a large nasal cavity helps to inhale more air each time (compared to other representatives of the cat family); Short strong paws and developed chest muscles allow to move quickly and safely along the mountain slopes; Thick fur up to 12 cm long protects against frost and wind, and its color makes the tiger invisible against a background of stones; the long tail serves both as balance while moving and as a warm blanket while resting. Snow leopards avoid meeting people, preferring to hunt wild prizes, but despite this, the future of the species is in danger. The most serious problem is the reduction of the food supply. Snow leopards have lived here since 1964. Special conditions were created for them: spacious enclosures without dampness or drafts, with dry bedding and shade from pine trees in the heat.
