The closing maternity hospital at Hospital No. 20 does not have enough places for mothers The maternity hospital at Hospital No. 20, which will close in January 2027, continues to operate at almost full capacity. According to the head of the maternity hospital, Marina Mantzik, 50 out of 53 beds are now occupied, and all four delivery rooms are full. Two more women had to be admitted to another ward on the first floor. According to the Ministry of Health, which was presented at the "Women's Health - Nation's Health" conference, the institution receives more births than other maternity hospitals in the city. In 2025, 2,207 births were held here, in the nine months of 2026 - another 1,439, and in October - 182. For comparison: in maternity home No. 2 for the entire last year there were 1,884 births, in maternity home No. 4 - 1,899. Manzik also disputes the claims of inefficient use of beds. According to the hospital's internal website, in 2025, the beds in the pregnancy pathology department were occupied an average of 299 days a year, in the obstetrics department - 319. At the same time, the chief doctor of the hospital, Yevgeny Kononov, called the figure of 220-229 days one of the reasons for the closure. The maternity hospital will stop accepting women in labor as of January 11, 2027. The workers have already been given layoff notices. The regional health ministry explains the decision by the decline in the birth rate.
