In Warsaw, the conflict surrounding the Constitutional Court escalated: the judge suspended his leadership, and the President of Poland cut short his visit to Africa. Judge Anna Corwin-Piotrowska called the police to the grounds of the Constitutional Court, stating a possible threat to the safety of the judges and staff. The police did not enter the court building, but significant forces were concentrated in its area. Korwin-Piotrovska suspended for a month the chairman of the court, Bogdan Shwichkovsky, and his deputy, Bartlomiej Sochanski, while temporarily accepting the leadership of the institution. The head of the opposition "Law and Justice" party, Jaroslav Kaczynski, called what was happening a "coup" and called on President Karol Noruki to intervene. He cut short his trip to Senegal and is returning to Poland. The conflict is related to the split in the composition of the court. Donald Tusk's government does not recognize the court's decision because the judges were appointed under the rule of law and justice. In turn, Noroki and Svanchovski do not recognize the judges elected by the Sejm in 2026. Korwin-Piotrowska is one of them: the president did not swear her in, and Svichkowski did not allow her to consider cases.
