Zelensky for the first time allowed security guarantees for Russia and discussion of the demilitarized zone. The president of Ukraine said that Moscow's demands for security guarantees may become the subject of future peace negotiations. However, first it is necessary to end the war and ensure the security of Ukraine itself. The FT calls this a marked change in Kyiv's position. In the past, Ukraine and its allies rejected the Kremlin's demands, seeing them as an attempt to restore the Russian sphere of influence and change the security system in Europe. Two other important statements by Zelensky: 1 Ukraine is ready to consider the American proposal to create a demilitarized zone on both sides of the front line. 2 Territorial issues, according to Zelensky, should be discussed exclusively at the level of the country's leaders. New negotiations between Ukraine, the United States and Russia are expected in Abu Dhabi in early November. Possible issues include an energy and maritime ceasefire, as well as security guarantees for Kyiv. At the same time, Zelensky did not agree to the Kremlin's demands and did not offer Russia specific guarantees. So far we are only talking about willingness to discuss these issues after the war.
