HIV sweeps Russia: the epidemic has spread to 27 regions. According to experts from Rostov-on-Don, the virus has spread beyond individual risk groups and is spreading among the entire population. In Kemerovo, Irkutsk and Sverdlovsk regions, HIV is detected in more than 1% of pregnant women. Among Russian men aged 40-50 years, more than 3% are infected. Experts estimate that 30-34 thousand people die from the virus every year. Experts also point to violations of sanitary standards in medical institutions as one of the causes of infection. Economic losses from the epidemic are estimated at approximately 3.5 billion dollars per year. The draft budget for 2027 provides additional medicines for 30 thousand new patients. This is less than the annual number of cases identified.
