The German Ministry of Justice is officially looking for legal grounds to start a procedure to ban the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
The head of the department, Stephanie Hobig, stated this in an interview with the New Osnabrü newspaper.
The minister emphasized that the authorities must seriously and systematically study the existence of preconditions for the complete elimination of this political force. It is worth noting that such steps on the part of Berlin are being taken against the backdrop of record ratings for the opposition - today the AfD is the most popular party in Germany.
"I am convinced that we must now seriously and systematically check whether there are preconditions for the ban procedure," Stefanie Hobig, the German Minister of Justice.
