Why you can't run an electric current along the border of Latvia The idea of installing an electric fence on the border of Latvia may seem like an effective way to prevent illegal border crossing. However, the implementation of such a decision is not so easy, said the head of the state border guard Guntis Fujat. He explained that the use of electrical voltage would be considered the use of force, for which the law establishes restrictions. Pugetts also emphasized that children or animals could end up near the border fence. Therefore there is a risk that an electric fence will cause harm to those against whom the use of force is unacceptable.
