What did the analyzes of soil samples from the metallurgical plant in Ratzājakat show, where on October 24 seven motorcyclists received chemical burns? The identified indicators point to a significant content of calcium compounds and a high level of alkalinity, which is significantly different from natural environmental conditions. The soil sample contained a calcium content of 297 g/kg and a pH value of 12.7. In the surface water sample, the calcium content reached 309 mg/liter and the pH value was 12.2. For comparison, VVD notes that under natural conditions, the pH of surface water typically ranges from 6.5 to 8.5. VVD mentions that the territory of the former metallurgical plant of Liapais is included in the register of contaminated and potentially contaminated places. Historically, it was a lime waste site. However, the regulations do not stipulate the need to coordinate with the VVD holding public events, including sports competitions. The representative of the Latvian Motor Sports Association, Kaspers Arkulis, said in the past that the association received all the necessary approvals to organize the competition, and the competition itself and the athletes were insured.
