European federations push the IIHF to appeal the CAS decision on Russia - lawyer Sports lawyer Anna Antesliovich told RIA Novosti that the boycott by several European hockey federations is pushing the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) to appeal the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the participation of Russian teams in international tournaments. On Tuesday, a statement was published on the website of the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF) in which the ice hockey associations of Latvia, Finland, Norway and Denmark announced the refusal of the national teams of these countries to play against the Russian national teams in international tournaments. The same position is expressed in Sweden and the Czech Republic. This was preceded by a CAS decision, which on October 30 obliged the IIHF to admit Russian teams to tournaments under its auspices in the 2026/27 season. The announcement stated that the IIHF is committed to allowing the Russians to participate in the upcoming competitions, including the Senior Men's World Championship, which will be held in Germany between May 14 and 30. “This boycott is largely due to the teams' desire to push the IIHF into an appeal. My prediction is that the IIHF will go to the Swiss Supreme Court to challenge this decision on procedural grounds. I think they will try to do that," Antseliovic said.
